Labor Day is past, and it’s time to put away your white belt and white pants and to start thinking about joining SAPA’s board. SAPA is in the midst of some dynamic changes looking to both broaden and deepen our connections to the community at large and to our community of psychologists. Members of the board are working to expand our role southern Arizona by not only promoting the field of psychology, but by interacting with other agencies and professionals in a synergistic manner. We are deepening our relationship with the Loft where we are continuing to sponsor a number of films of psychological interest but are also exploring developing a Psychological Film Series. David Lisak, a nationally renowned speaker, will address the SAPA community and the broader community of providers in Tucson. At the same time, based on feedback from members who requested more opportunities to network and interact with each other, we will be initiating a series of happy hour gatherings along with other social events. Additionally, we are re-initiating the luncheon CEs this fall.
We have been able to develop these programs because of the efforts of our board and many new ideas brought by its members. We continue to look for psychologists to join us and contribute to our growth. Please consider volunteering your time. This is a very collegial group and all of our current members have benefited from their membership as well as contributed to health and growth of our organization.
The following positions will be open for the coming year. Below is a description of the position. If you are interested, contact Duffy Wagman at email@example.com, the chair of this year’s Nominating Committee. If you are nominating yourself (strongly encouraged), please include a brief biography that we can include with the ballot. The expected term for President Elect is 3 years, (President-Elect, President, Past President); the other terms are for two years. The board meets about 10 times a year, the first Tuesday of most months, for 60 to 90 minutes.

1. fulfill all the duties of the President in the event of the President’s absence, illness, disability, or resignation;
2. conduct a review of the financial records of the Association during the first sixty (60) days following the assumption of office; and
3. undertake any duties assigned by the President.
The Treasurer shall:
1. be responsible for the receipt, deposit, disposal, and withdrawal of all funds of the Association consistent with the Bylaws or as directed by the President and/or the Executive Committee;
2. be responsible for the collection of all dues, fees, assessments, fines, etc. levied by the Association upon the members;
3. be responsible for keeping records of the Association’s revenues and expenditures;
4. prepare the proposed budget for the following year and submit to the Board of Directors for approval;
5. maintain and submit all tax-related records, including those required to maintain the Association’s tax-exempt status;
6. publish regularly a financial report made available to all membership; and
7. make arrangements for an annual review of the Association’s financial records by the president-elect
The Program Committee is a Standing Committee. The Chairperson shall recruit no fewer than two (2) Committee members. It shall be the responsibility of this Committee to:
1. Plan professional education programs, including contacting and making arrangements with speakers, publicizing these events, and coordinating other activities necessary;
2. Ensure that the Association’s continuing education (CE) events conform to the standards necessary to award CE credit.
3. Maintain records of attendance to events;
4. Advise and coordinate with other Committees organizing events and wanting to offer CE credit for participation in those events; and
5. Coordinate the requirements to ensure that SAPA remains in good standing as an APA-approved sponsor of continuing professional education.
Members at Large shall represent the interests of the membership and serve on special assignments as needs and opportunities arise, including but not limited to serving in standing and ad hoc committees
