Hello Fellow SAPA Members,
I wanted to take a few minutes to share with you some of the exciting plans we have for CE opportunities in 2015. We have departed from our typical luncheon schedule this season in order to provide CE events that would help everyone fulfill their required CE's for the Arizona requirements.
On Saturday, February 21, 2015, Dr. Mayday Levine-Mata will be providing a 4-hour presentation that will meet the requirements for the 4 Child Abuse / Domestic Violence CE's. This presentation, Childhood Abuse & Historical Trauma: Understanding Interactions & Implications for Treatment, will be held at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel at Reid Park (445 S. Alvernon Way). Lunch will be provided. Registration is now open (https://sapatrauma.eventbrite.com). Thanks to Mayday for helping us with this!
On Friday, March 6, 2015, Dr. Andy Hogg will be providing a 2-hour presentation that will earn 2 Ethics CEs. His presentation, Ethics in Training and Supervision, will be held at the Child & Family Resources training room (2800 E. Broadway Blvd.). Lunch will be provided. Registration will be open very soon so check the SAPA website regularly (www.sapaonline.org). Thanks to Andy for agreeing to drive to Tucson to present for us and thanks to Eric Schindler for arranging space at CFR for us that day!
We have decided not to offer a CE luncheon in April since this would be so close to the renewal date that we know you will have all your CE's by mid-April and already sent your packet off to the board for renewal, right? :-) If you want something to do on our usual luncheon date (3rd Tuesday of the month), Child & Family Resources will be holding a luncheon that day. More news to come on that.
The CE Committee is excited about an event we are planning for the Fall. As some of you may know, Dr. David Lisak recently provided a short presentation at AZPA. His talk was very well received and there were many requests for him to do a full day event. We are very fortunate that Dr. Lisak agreed to do a full day presentation on Trauma for SAPA here in Tucson on Saturday, September 19th. Please mark your calendars now and save the date. We are planning a nice full day event to include lunch, partnerships with other organizations in Arizona, and several sponsors/exhibitors. We are hoping to reach out to psychologists, counselors, and a range of behavioral health providers in Tucson and Phoenix areas to attend this event. Of course, current SAPA members will receive an early bird registration option and a discount on the registration fee. We plan to open registration for this event in June. We are currently arranging partnerships and sponsorships for this event so if you have any suggestions for these, please email me at email@example.com. Special thanks go out to Larry Morris for helping to make this event possible!
We plan to round out the Fall with 2 luncheons. We are still working out the details for these events and hope to hold them on our traditional 3rd Tuesday in October and November. However, we will be looking for a new regular venue for our luncheons due to a price increase and space limitations at The Arizona Inn. We will keep you posted on these plans. I would like to end this message with a hearty thanks to all the CE committee members who put in a lot of time and effort to plan and run these events, and to Roxana and Johanna who help with many of the behind-the-scenes tasks.
