The presentation will highlight the teachers’ role as a socializing agent in the classroom and school, with a particular emphasis on their influence on students’ social and emotional outcomes. Following an overview of theoretical perspectives and current literature, effective strategies to support teachers and other school personnel will be presented. The participants will have an opportunity to explore ways to promote positive teacher-student relationships and safe classrooms and to identify specific action plans that are based on the needs of classrooms/schools they currently serve.
1. Identify the key processes of teacher influences in students’ social emotional adjustment
2. Develop effective strategies to support teachers and other school personnel
3. Recognize potential challenges in supporting them, and
4. Utilize preventive approaches in school psychology practice
About the speaker:
Dr. Jina Yoon is currently the Program Director and professor for the School Psychology Program at the University of Arizona and recently hails from Wayne State University, Michigan. Dr. Yoon completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education in South Korea and her Masters in Education in Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Texas at Austin before completing her M.A. & Ph.D. (1998) in School Psychology at Texas A&M University. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a licensed psychologist in Michigan. She is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of School Psychology.

Arizona Association of School Psychologists is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer continuing education for school psychologists (NASP Approved Provider #1013). AASP maintains responsibility for this program.
