Tigers Be Still

SAPA In The Community (SITC) partnered with Arizona Repertory Theater in 2017 for their production of Tigers Be Still by Kim Rosenstock. Tigers Be Still is a comedy that is centered around unemployed Sherry Wickman who earned her Master’s degree in art therapy. Sherry moves home while searching for a job and obtains employment with a local school to teach art and to be an art therapist for the principal’s son, who recently lost his mother in a car accident. In this production, Sherry shares with the audience how she was able to overcome her depression while her mother and sister continue to struggle in the depths of their depression. The play deals with important mental health elements such as: depression, alcoholism, anxiety, loneliness, and grief. On Wednesday August 29, 2017, SITC members Dr. Marty Levy and Dr. Roxana Samaniego met with the cast of Tigers Be Still to discuss the mental health themes in the production. On Sunday September 24, 2017, SITC members Dr. Lucy Wilson and Dr. Courtney Schuneman participated in a pre-show discussion with the audience and on Friday October 6, 2017, Dr. Courtney Schuneman and Dr. Shannon Sticken participated in a post-show discussion with the audience and the cast of Tigers Be Still.
